Snack Hacks: How to Snack Like a Fitness Pro

We polled our mega-strong HSM | Core coaches on their snacking habits. Check out what we learned about how to stave off hanger for good!

What we learned:

  1. Smoothies are the key to beating the mid-day crash

“SMOOTHIES! For a meal or a snack. Green Brothers Juice and Berrybrook Farms are my favorites (if we’re being specific- the Master Detox from Green Brothers is the go-to for me). Or if I make them at home, of course the HSM Smoothie. ;) Another make-at-home must is banana with almond butter and spinach.” -Rachel

“I will make a smoothie to go as my snack and drink it throughout the day (keep it in a yeti or hydro flask). My go-tos are the same as Rachel’s.” -Sara

“The Power Lunch smoothie from Green Brothers.” -Mary Margaret

“I live off of smoothies!” -Lexy

"I make and freeze packets of the HSM smoothie and add flax seed, spinach and coconut meat to it." -Andrea

  2. Our coaches go nuts for nuts

“I always carry around a ziplock back of cashews and raisins/trail mix for when I’m on the go.” -Dayron

  3. Coach Sasha has a sweet tooth — here’s how she satisfies it:

“I love 1 tsp. organic peanut butter with a sprinkle of cinnamon and organic cacao nibs. It takes care of my sweet tooth while packing a punch in the nutrition department.” -Sasha

“Plain dates are delicious with almond butter.” -Stephanie

  4. Healthy fats and protein are key— not only are they delicious; they keep you full longer to get you through the day with ease

“Avocado + spoon = heaven” -Haylee

    “Peanut butter protein bites” -Arthur

"I make batches of chia pudding with a tbsp of oats, scoop of whey protein, vanilla, almond milk, cinnamon and coconut/berries. I also love Siggi’s plain yogurt with cinnamon, a 1/2 tbsp. of almond butter, berries and some chia seeds. If I don't have to go anywhere, avo toast on Gigi crackers and everything but the bagel seasoning (less portable but super quick) is my go-to." -Andrea

“The Good Bean’s Organic Chickpeas with sea salt are the best… I keep them in my purse/car.” -Stephanie

  5. In a bind, a bar is best

“When I’m on the go I will have a bar in my bag (usually a peanut butter RxBar or the smaller Think Thins).” -Sara

"I rely on cherry pie flavored Lärabars.” -Mary Margaret

    “RxBars always save me!” -Kristen

    “Lärabars for sure!” -Stephanie

"I’m a big Perfect Bar person (I know they have honey, but don’t have any “natural flavor,” which is technically not natural, so I feel like it balances!) The chocolate walnut brownie is a dream." -Andrea

  6. At the end of the day, you just can’t beat whole foods!

“I always love to have some sliced fruit (apples, strawberries, peaches) on-hand.” -Sara

“If I need a quick snack I have an apple or banana!” -Lexy

“Fresh fruit is a great idea for on the go when you don’t have time to make something.” -Stephanie

“At home I’ll have peanut butter and sliced bananas.” -Dayron

“I’m also a banana with peanut butter and smoothies kind of girl!” -Kristi
